Adoption Seminars

New Life Family Services provides adoption and post-adoption seminars for current and past clients. All seminars, including Information Meetings require preregistration. Please contact the Administrative Social Worker at 612-746-5670 for more information or to register for a seminar.

Informational Meeting

At the Information Meeting, members of our adoption staff share detailed information about New Life Family Services, our adoption services and expectations. Both husband and wife are required to attend the information meeting. Some of the items discussed include the adoption study process, expectant parent requests, openness, how expectant parents come to a decision of choosing a family, placement and finalization. We also explain our programs including full and limited service adoption, networking options, and embryo adoption. Upon attending the meeting, you will receive the formal adoption application, educational literature and other useful tools to assist you in your decision making process. Approval of the Preliminary Application is required for attendance.

Informational Meeting for Embryo Adoption

New Life offers an Information Meeting specific to Embryo Adoption for those who are interested in this type of adoption rather than domestic infant adoption. Members of our adoption staff share detailed information about New Life Family Services, explain the embryo adoption home study and process, and discuss the embryo programs we work with. Upon attending the meeting, you will receive the formal adoption application, educational literature and other useful tools to assist you in your decision making process. Openness Seminars

At the Openness Seminar you will receive an educational packet full of information about open adoption; what is open adoption? levels of openness, what openness is not, history behind openness, professional research on openness, specific New Life research on openness, the benefits and challenges associated with openness, keys to a successful open adoption and the roles people have in open adoption. The adoption unit staff members will walk through this educational packet with you, highlighting everything and going into depths on a few key items.  After walking through the educational packet you will have a chance to talk frankly about your feelings about openness with other participates (group discussion). To end our time we invite birth parents to come share their stories with you. You can hear about openness from a birth parent’s perspective and ask them the questions that have been weighing on your mind. Both husband and wife are required to attend this seminar while in the adoption study process.

Transracial Parenting Education Seminar

All families open to transracial parenting are required to attend this seminar. During the seminar, we will watch a documentary and some short videos about transracial adoption, and adoption staff will lead discussion for participants throughout. Prospective adoptive families also receive additional education on this topic during the home study process. This seminar will be held after the Openness Seminar and lunch will be provided.

Adoptive Parent Panel

Feel like you are the only one who has struggled through your adoption process? You are not alone! The Adoptive Parent Panel is an excellent place to hear several families share their adoption experience. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from adoptive families on every aspect of their adoption process from the waiting process to finalization.

Post Adoption Seminar: Navigating Relationships

Families of adoption often have unique relationships that other families may not experience. There can be a lot to navigate within these unique relationships and you may not feel fully equipped to handle each one. Whether it is a relationship with a birth family, a relationship between an adopted child and a biological child, or navigating transracial relationships within your family it may feel like you are alone in your experience. Come hear a panel of adoptive families talk about their experience navigating the many relationships of adoption.

Post Adoption Seminar: Triad Panel

The triad panel includes all members of the adoption relationship: the adoptee, adoptive parents and birth parent(s). You’ll hear the birth parent(s) share about their journey in making an adoption plan, the adoptive parent’s story in what lead them to pursue adoption, and the adoptee’s experience in this unique relationship.

Empowered to Connect Conference

New Life in conjunction with Evergreen Church is hosting a simulcast of the Empowered to Connect Conference in April 2018. The Empowered to Connect Conference is a two-day event presented by Show Hope and the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development. Come experience practical teaching in a safe and supportive community as we work to equip families, churches, and professionals to better serve children impacted by adoption and foster care. Featuring Trust-Based Relational Intervention® methods developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, this conference helps bring attachment and connection in families.
